Knitting Practice

I have a lot of knit projects I want to do, but I kinda suck with the two color knits. So I’ve been practicing!

You can see what I mean with sucking with the two color thing. How did one of the eye on the first space invader just disappear and the other kinda exploded? *sigh* The second invader was a little better, but it was too loose. While, the Mountain mana symbol ironically looks pretty good in the picture, you can’t see how puckered it is. While in some areas, it looks 3D, which is kinda cool, the rest just looks… well, swollen. Any knitters out there have any suggestions on how to knit with two colors properly?

First, I think a little imperfection is charming. So maybe you don’t want my advice…

Are you being sure to twist the yarn in the back every couple stitches? That helps with the puckering/swollen issues.

    Blocking is your friend.

One stitch - like your space invaders eyes - is really hard - you might want to consider doing things like that in duplicate stitch.

Or beads. I’ll often plan to knit a bead in or sew one on as an afterthought when I just need to cover one stitch. I know that’s not for everyone, though.

Your designs are awesome! And you’re right - the center one photographed GREAT!

There are two-colored-knitting videos at Knitting Help (http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques) that might help.

I just want you to know I left a great comment yesterday on this entry. Long, thoughtful, full of links… then my 3-year-old-to be pulled the plug on my “coober.” (That’s what she calls my computer. So cute!)

Yeah so I’m WAY too lazy to re-post all that stuff. Just know that for a beginning knitter you’re way ahead of the game. :)

Trust me, this is a work of art compared to my own knitting. My problem is, things distract me (read: people) and I lose track of where I’m at and where I’m going, which leads me to mess up horribly.

My one and only true question is where did you locate the mana emblems designs that you use? I’m trying to get things set up to do something similar–only in this case embroidering on a jacket.
