I had one of the craziest weekends I’ve had in a long time. First off, the Professor went out of state with his grandparents overnight. This was the first time he and I had been apart for more than a few hours. While I was looking forward to having a weekend all to myself, my heart completely broke when he left. But now he’s back and eating cheerios in his high chair. I feel so much better.
So! This weekend, as I said, crazy. Firstly, we went to see Max Payne. *sigh* Why? I don’t know. There wasn’t anything else playing down here and we haven’t been to a movie in the theater in forever. A complete waste of time and money. Although Alex and I did have fun MST3000-ing it.
We drove to the nearest “large” town, Hunstville, to remind us how much our current town sucks balls. But I digress. We went to the Asian market to pick up some rice flour and other essentials for a sushi dinner I’m having tonight. (New friends coming over!!!) Now you can’t go into an Asian store without picking up some awesome Japanese snacks. Alex decided to go out on a limb and get a bag of snacks with dried anchovies in it. It was…. interesting. It’s hard to eat things that are still looking at you. *shudder* Anyway, the point of this is, while snacking, I read the ingredients out of curiosity, and this is what I saw:
Oops. Do you think if you plant a rape seed, that’s how tentacle monsters are born?
*EDIT* Joey just informed me that a rapeseed is a real thing! Wikipedia says so! That’s bizarre. I really thought they meant grapeseed oil.
From there we went to meet a friend and go to a concert at the Flying Monkey. I had never heard of the band before, but I’m totally hooked now on a local band called Daikaiju. Super fast, surfer rock. Their MySpace page says they sound like ” SUUPAA-MECHA-KINGU ROCK!!!” Which I think is delightfully accurate. Seriously, if you like energetic music with unbelievable guitar, bass, and drumming skills, go listen to them. And no lead singer getting in the way with whiny or meaningless lyrics. It’s all about the instruments, baby!
And that was all just on Saturday! On Sunday, I went out and checked the mail (I check it like twice a week…) and found this!
It was from Snippygal! She was one of the winners of the wonky DS case giveaway. You know there is nothing better than getting stuff in the mail. I was in a silly mood for the rest of the day. I love this little guy! I’m having to keep it away form the cat though, who for some reason, loves it….
This post is getting insanely long, isn’t it?
I started to work on the costumes again and I think I made the ugliest top hat in all creation. I’ll post pictures of that one later. Long story short, I got so frustrated with it, I had to take a break or I was going to dump the whole project. I had a pair of knitting needles laying around taunting me, trying to get me to learn to knit, so I figured what the hey, I’ll give it a try.
It is too much fun! I didn’t want to go back to sewing at all! I did more research and found out why it’s curling and since I took this picture I have ripped out the stitches and started over about 4 times. I don’t know why ripping out stitches is so satisfying sometimes. Maybe I just have a destructive nature.
I finally did get back to sewing, though. The hat still looks like someone sat on it, but hopefully the rest of the costume will look better.
Damn, that was long. Hopefully that will hold you over for a while
I’m still crazy busy this week.

Yeah, knitting is awesome. I like it because you don’t have to do much counting (unless you’re crazy and making a Harry Potter scarf for Nick).
Your comment about the tentacle monsters made me just about die laughing here in the dorms. I hope I won’t have to explain…XD
Those anchovy things sound way too much like stuff I was forced to eat in Taiwan *shudders*

Yep, your current town does suck balls. But then again, so does our “large” town. Please tell me you at least went to the Monaco to see that tripe and not one of the lesser venues.

I’m not a big fan of candy corn but that little guy sure is cool looking! I can understand the cat liking it, although our cats like to steal our daughter’s toys for their own selfish purposes.
Oh and Daikaiju- very sweet surfer rock sounds.

We go to H’ville to for the same ball-sucking-town reason. Although, with each trip down University, I’m reminded that in my town, the traffic sitch is MUCH better…
The Monaco rocks (a theater with a BAR ~heaven~), but I’m kinda “eh” about the stores around it. Except for WH/BM…that store rules.

Ripping back is usually not a favorite part of knitting for most people! I actually would rather fudge it than rip back… but that’s cause I feel like a failure if I have to go back…
But as some famous knitter once said: “It’s just knitting.”

I’m not a fan of ripping stitches, but knitting is a blast! (^-^) I find it most impressive how easily you seem to pick up hobbies
I can knit, and that’s about it. Crochet eludes me, I’m terrible at sewing, and my cooking skills are mediocre at best >.< Maybe I’ll get better eventually.
Good luck in your knitting expedition! And the little Candy Corn is amazing!
