My sad sewing attempt

Okay! I made a … thing! When I was contemplating what to attempt with all that fabric, I had all these grand ideas going through my head for Nintendo DS accessories. But then I figured it was all too hard, so I was going to make a pillow.

But then TeriBurrito talked me into it ;) Great minds think alike, ya know.

Here are some other shots:

So as you can see, it’s a little wonky, but for a first try, I’m pretty proud of it. A very good learning experience. I learned that I need to add a few millimeters to the design if it’s curving over anything. You can see how it’s straining at the velcro. (That velcro is also crooked and kind of an eye sore…. Oh well.) I was going to do buttons, but button holes are something I couldn’t quite figure out. I will eventually, though.

All in all, I had a lot of fun and I’ve already started on the next project. It’s going to be a pillow, of some geeky sort. Wish me luck!!

    Wow! That came out really well! I bet something like that would sell really well on Etsy.

    I can’t wait to see your geeky pillows. I’m sure they will make me want to bust out the sewing machine and lose my fingers.

    Very nice! It looks so earthy! The game pockets are a cute touch ^_^

    Awesome. You could stop having to buy clothes for Ari if you keep this up.

    I’m just learning to sew, too! I think one of the best things about making things that turn out not quite the way you expected it is learning HEAPS along the way. Keep it up! :)

    Nicely done—and congrats on the adventurous spirit. I came across this today because I’m trying to locate a cool case I’m pretty sure I saw on Amazon and thought I could easily make better myself..but not having luck. It was kind of like what knitters use to store their needles, called needle rolls, and the general support structures were kind of like this one I found at Etsy:

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20815089&ref=sr_list_14&&ga_search_query=nintendo+ds+lite+case&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=5&order=date_desc&includes=tags&includes=title

    So since you’re adventurous, I was wondering if you might want to collab on one with me? I’m a little worried about dimensions and I think you have experience with the “ease” required to make sure things aren’t too tight….
