So there’s this kid, right? And he is awesome. Like super awesome. This dude loves robots, so his parents asked for a robot cake. I was more than happy to oblige!
Ignore that stick coming out of the top of his head. It was just for extra stabilization for the drive to the party.
He loved it! This was the hardest cake I’ve made so far. It’s not as pretty as I wanted, but I think for a fondant-free cake, it’s not bad. I learned some lessons in gravity and making stronger bases for skinny cakes. I already have more ideas for other cakes, which is good since I have three more coming up in the next two months! I think this may become a “thing.”

TOTALLY awesome. Love the colors - how’d you get such a nice dark blue?

@Dot: http://tiny.cc/Iqvfs Wilton Icing colors. They’re concentrated colors so you use less and get really intense colors. Red and black are really hard to make, but all the others are gorgeous!

That is so cute! I’m a anti fondant baker too, so I love all the ways you created all the extras with candy. Loved your R2 cake too!

Cake makin’ huh? Just don’t ever go to CakeWrecks for inspiration! XD
I’m impressed, but honestly, I knew you’d pull it off. I’ve never seen you put your mind to something and NOT accomplish it!

So cute! I love how he is three dimensional. When the parent’s thought robot cake, they probably thought of something 2D. You must have blown them away with this! How did you make the pieces so flat?

That is an adorable cake! I always love looking at your baked goods– they always look really cute, and super tasty.
You know, it always surprises me how small the internet world is. I’ve worked techops during Dragon*Con the past couple of years, so I’ve met RoboCake’s dad a couple of times in passing. Weird.

@Bridget I used a cake leveler. I LOVE that thing. Then I used a serrated knife to clean up all the edges.

@fangirlzab: You’re telling me! Then again, it could be that all the awesome people are involved in some way with DragonCon. I mean you people are EVERYWHERE! Not that it’s a bad thing. All my favorite people work DragonCon, most of them in Tech Ops
Look forward to seeing you there this year!
