DIY Wedding Favors: Candy Pouches

This is the first of three favor tutorials. I’ll have the others up as soon as I can find the pictures…. I think they may be on the laptop which Alex ran off with today.

First off, I got the idea for this from a tutorial I stumbled across at a craft blog called Donna’s Blog. Her pattern was a little too big for what I had planned, so I just shrunk down the size a bit. It is ridiculously easy!

Here is a pic of the supplies I used:

Wedding Favors

You will need:
Cardstock or Scrapbook Paper
Scissors
Glue (I used glue sticks which dry quickly)
Binder Clips
Candy
Fake Wedding Rings (found at hobby stores)
Love quotes
Decorations for the outside of the pouch. (I printed off stickers with the Wedding info on it, but this is the part that will really add pizazz to your project. Add some ribbon, dangly do-dads, what have you, for a favor that really catches people’s eye.)

Donna’s Blog really has all the steps you need, so I won’t reiterate the obvious ones here. I will say what I did different, though. I didn’t use a paper crimper. It’s not necessary, but it sure is pretty. And I found that using a binder clip to hold the paper together while the glue dried was helpful:

Sealing the pouch

As for the rings and quotes, I would print out a quote, roll it up, and put it inside the ring. These were great conversation starters at the tables, and the kids liked collecting the rings and wearing them. For wedding quotes, just do a Google search for “love quotes” or “wedding quotes” and pick out ones that are appropriate for the occasion. For instance, this was a Christian wedding but the bride and groom have great senses of humor, so I used scriptures and funny quotes, and one or two sappy quotes for good measure.

After the ring/quote combo is inside the pouch, add candy, seal, and voila! You have made a pouch! I wanted to add more things, like little doves, or blue M&Ms, but I ran out of money for the favors so I had to make due.

And just so you know the price tag on this, I made 100 of these for less than $25.00. Pretty sweet, huh?? It would have been even cheaper if I hadn’t bought sticker paper for my printer and just used scrapbook paper cutouts. Oh well, learning experience for next time!

Those are awesome! And I loved the cake you did too. You are so craftastic! I wish I had just a fraction of the craftiness that you and Misty do.
