I’ve made a foray into amigurumi recently. I have an idea for a huge project for after I finish working on The Gearheart, but I’ve gotta design some amigurumi for it. It’s a lot harder than it looks! I have made a head (whoopty doo, it’s just a ball) and I’ve been working on a torso for over a week. I’ve started over more than ten times. I didn’t start over with this last disaster, however, because I unintentionally made a perfect pear. So I’m gonna close it up and tell people I did it on purpose. Shhh, don’t tell anyone!
Anyway, I’ve been cruising the internet looking for inspiration and tips, and I’ve seen some AMAZING things out there. I’m sure most of you have seen Geek Central Station (and if you haven’t, you MUST peruse her ENTIRE Flickr photostream. No joke. It’s awesome.) And then there are the Mythbusters amigurumi that were all over the internets a while back. But I found a treasure trove of awesomeness while digging around the Craftster forums. It seems that the majority of the crocheters on that site are hard core geeks. Check these out!
Darth Vader and Cthulhu in the same place!
Grover was always my favorite.
Wakko Warner + pattern. Wonder if there is a Freakazoid amigurumi out there? Does anyone else remember when Cartoon Network played cool stuff? Ah, memories…..
Tiny Splinter from TMNT + pattern and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, too!
Just one of many Benders on Craftster.
A Katamari + pattern. I need to make one of these and stab all my crochet hooks in it to keep them together. And here’s a Prince to go with it.
This Dynamite is one of my favorite pieces from WooWork.
A goblin inspired by the Labyrinth. I think he looks a little more like Dobby from Harry Potter. Still cute, either way!

This is awesome. Thanks! Now my “to make” list has like doubled, lol. Wicket is by far my favourite, although Freakazoid is a pretty killer idea. Unfortunately, my crochet skills are still too remedial to come up with something like that, haha.

I’ve just started trying out amigurumi too. I’m not awesome at it, but I enjoy it.
One day I hope to make my very own mythbusters. Jamie’s moustache is too cute for words.

Whatdayaknow…I didn’t know the sack people craft had some fancy name. Good to know. I just call them sackies.
Now I can be even more of a geek.
I *love* the Tom Servo sackie.
Let me know if you see a Robocop sackie in your travels. Or maybe a Rambo or Rocky…those would kick ass too.
Ooo ooo ooo — a Tron sackie!! Yes!!!

Aww man, now my list of things I want to make but don’t know how to has grown. I really need to get on it and learn how to crochet.
Thanks for all the links!

It’s quite easy to improvise Amigurumi patterns. The third thing I crocheted was a Cthulhu I made up as I went along, because none of the patterns I found had the head shape I wanted.

Man, I wish I had actually written down my beholder as I made it now. There’s a lot of people who would probably appreciate it. Unfortunately, my own creations I usually wing.
