Pacman Wedding Cake

I finally get to show everyone the groom’s cake I made!!!! It’s been a super secret project so the groom wouldn’t find out, but now that he’s been officially de-bachelored, I can unveil it.

Pacman Groom's Cake

The groom is one of my best friends on the planet and I’ve known him since high school. The Bride and I decided on a Pacman theme and this is what I came up with. I thought Pacman was rather fitting for many reasons. First, he’s a Pacman master, second, the wedding colors were blue and yellow, and third, I had made a much crappier Pacman cake for him years ago for his 22nd birthday. This was a nice second try. He absolutely flipped over it which just made my day. I wish I had a video of his reaction but alas, no such luck.

The topper was made out of super sculpey so they could keep it as a memento, but the rest was all edible. But I have to use “edible” in a loose term. I had to bake the cake 3 days before the wedding, and then decorate it at the church the day before, which I hoped wouldn’t be a problem, but the recipe I used couldn’t handle it. The cakes arrived intact, but they were dry and described as “sweet corn bread” by everyone that tried it (including myself). *sigh* But ya know what? No one even cared! They thought it was fun and perfect anyway.

The favors were a hit, my toast speech had everyone laughing, no one got injured (emotionally or physically), Alex took some killer photos, I got to see my best buds on the planet again, no sound problems, no car problems…. The list could go on. The wedding was a complete success! Which is really weird because doesn’t something ALWAYS go wrong at a wedding? I guess karma is just rewarding the bride and groom. I couldn’t name two other people on the planet that deserve a perfect wedding, and a perfect life together more than they.

This whole wedding experience was one the hardest things I have ever done. After making all the favors, and packing everything, driving 9 hours to Arkansas, and then the whirlwind of the weekend with dinners and rehearsals, about 10 hours of sleep over 72 hours, and all the preparation, I am completely worn out. It’s strange, actually, I was working harder for this wedding that I did for my own! But it was completely worth it!!!

And now I’m going to go finish sorting and editing the pictures Alex took. (And then take a well deserved nap.) I’ll have pics and tutorials for the favors later in the week!!

Holy damn! That’s awesome!! You just keep upping your game, you know. You better watch it or you’ll climb to high ;)

Jen made Pac-Man cupcakes once and they were super cute too, would have been a good compliment to your cake.

Sounds like the wedding gig was a great time, so that awesomeness makes up for some recent crapiness, I hope.

@Toastie: I really wanted to make some cupcakes, too, but I just didn’t have time. I was up until 11:30 at night decorating this cake (all alone in that church!). Maybe if I had Jen with me, we could have worked together! But no Jen for me. *sad face*

Ahhh I love it! Are the ghosts on the side made of fondant? I really like that you made the cake topper something the bride and groom can keep - that’s very thoughtful! Your friends are lucky to have someone so talented help them with their wedding! BTW, when I get married, you might be getting a call from me - LOL :)

They’re made from gumpaste, not fondant. I like the way it tastes more. I could have used just regular frosting, but I didn’t think about that.

I don’t think I could bake a cake for ya, but I could send ya a topper!!

Looks adorable, my boy would love to have one. What kind of food coloring did you use? The color seems so vivid here, unlike those I usually use at home.

@Russellville: I used icing coloring paste. You can find them at more hobby stores that have a baking section. They’re super concentrated and more expensive, but the final look is so worth it.

I agree with using icing color paste, buy the base color and you can make a variety of shades you would love!
