New Craft Progress

EDIT: Yo, dudes! It’s finished! Check out the new link: Finished Guitar Hero Scarf

I thought I would have finished this thing by now, but not quite. So here are progress pictures! May I present, my Guitar Hero Scarf!!

Well it doesn’t look like much at the moment, this is just as far as I’ve gotten. Here, let me put some buttons on top of it:

A problem I didn’t anticipate fully, is it shrank more than expected. So while the scarf width starts on Expert, it starts to go towards Medium…. Not cool. I think I can work around it, though. The other end isn’t finished so maybe start on that side with more stitches and meet in the middle.

I’m also having trouble deciding on button placement. I really want to copy a riff from a song in Guitar Hero, but that is proving troublesome. (I only want the identifying riff of a song because there is no way I can do a whole song. Cassie over at Mario Scarf Blog is the only person with the cojones to tackle a project of that size! ) So I’ve been trying to play until I get to “the good part” and then pausing it to copy down what’s on the screen. But isn’t working because I can almost never pause at the exact right time or when I DO catch it, when I unpause to continue on to the next part of the riff, (there aren’t that many buttons on the screen) I inevitably stumble and end up failing out eventually before I can get everything down.

And I’m even having trouble deciding on which song! Should I go for a fun 80’s song, a hard rockin’ metal song, or a classic oldie. I love them all! Argh. Anyone have any ideas on how to get an accurate depiction of part of a song?

Haha…now that’s cute - what a great idea! You need to put the Professor to work so you can pump these things out and start raking in the coin! ;)
That is really awesome and won’t it be cool when someone sees the scarf and goes, “hey, is that Hold on Loosley?”

    Awesome.

I bet you could find videos on youtube of what you’re looking for, then pause it and go from there. Or make somebody else play while you write down what they are. Good luck!

I was also going to suggest you tube. Amazingly, people of all different skill levels record their playing and post them - you have experts getting 100% and mediums barely passing the song. Should be fairly easy to pause, restart, back up, etc on the videos.

So cool! This will definitely get you on Sprite Stitch - BTW, seems like the guy there LOVES you these days! Are you paying him for the publicity?! Haha.

I would have to agree with the others - your best bet will probably be to search YouTube for videos. I don’t know which song would be best though - I’d say just pick your favorite or one that looks like it might be easy to recognize.

Why didn’t I remember the power of the Youtube? Silly me! I’ve already found the song I want : ) Rockin old school with some Queen!!

@Erica: I know! I feel like I should be paying him! I am tickled pink since his site is quite possibly my favorite website on the internet. I check it his site more often than Craft, even! I’ve got such an internet crush on that guy. I gotta think of some way to repay him.

Try using practice mode to copy the riff. We managed to get the fiddly bits for a friends birthday cake this way :D Epic scarf. I want one soooo badly im willing to learn how to knit -well- to make this!

Wow. That’s an INCREDIBLE scarf! You are clearly mistress of the knitting needles, too!

Yeah, I was going to suggest youtube too…so I guess I’m not much help there.

Should I go back to giving you compliments for the scarf? XD

Oh, about the Sprite Stitch guy — maybe you could send him some of those Guitar Hero cupcakes! Although the Hubby may not be down with that.

    Cute scarf!

Some people have compiled note charts that might help. For example:

no clue what song you should use but when you decide, go into the practice mode and set it to the slowest speed and expert setting, then try and catch as much as possible while it’s going at around 50bpm or something.

Why not make the buttons like badges (or make actual badges) so the wearer can change the placement?

    This rules.

My favorite song on Guitar Hero will always be Jessica by the Allman Brothers. It’s kind of perfect.

Also, having some of the flames that come up when you hit a note would be excellent. I will definitely keep tabs (no pun intended, but it should have been) on this.

OR you could go onto practice and then set it to slowest for your song, that way you can replay each bit easily and take down any notes you want

I absolutely love this scarf! Would you be willing to pass along the pattern? I’m a HUGE Guitar Hero fan and I’d love to make one of my own.
