Butterflies for Jake

As some of you may not know, I am an origami fiend. If I get bored and there is pretty paper around, I leave a trail of tiny paper animals. I found a diagram for a simple butterfly years ago at Origami.com, but I can’t find it anymore. I’d love to show you how to make this certain type of butterfly, because once you get really good at it, you can finish one in less than 60 seconds.

This post was inspired by my old friend, Jake, since today is his birthday. One day, we were all driving somewhere and I was stuck in the back seat of his car for a reasonably long period of time. He and Alex, who was in the front seat, were babbling about Star Wars again and I was feeling rather ignored. I had a package of tiny origami papers in my purse so I decided to do some decorating. By the end of our trip across town, I had quietly covered the backseat, back window, and pretty much any crevice that could hold a sheet of paper in his car with about 50 butterflies. I thought he would flip out, but he loved them. He kept every one that he found and left a bunch in his car on purpose. He said every one that he would find was a little reminder of our friendship. :)
Anyway, Jake is halfway across the country, and I’m missing him terribly. If I had remembered his birthday sooner, I would have sent him a box of butterflies. But seeing that I just remembered while looking at my calender yesterday, I just made some new butterfly accessories for me. So now every time I wear these barrettes, I’ll think of one of the best friends I have ever had.

Happy Birthday, Jakey Poo. I miss you.

Awww~! So pretty! Butterflies make me think of you, and if they make you think of Jake, does that mean I’m thinking of Jake? XD

Well, you have succeeded in making me cry. Happy with yourself? Hmm??
:) Thank you so much. This is one of the nicest presents I’ve ever received.

    BTW, those accessories are FAB.

I used to love to make orgami things back in middle school. I could make a little frog that “jumped” when you pressed its butt.

Now all I can do is butterflies - and not even cool butterflies like yours - actually, mine are probably more like moths than butterflies. Poo.

    These are darling!

I surfed my way here from Folding Trees. What size papers did you use here?

    Hey,
I was wondering if you could put a video or step by step photos up of how you make these butterflies because i would like to make barrettes like yours and I can’t find instructions anywhere!
I love origami and it would mean a lot.

P.S. that video someone already posted a link to no longer works.
