Hobby Collector

In my list of hobbies, I should just say “collecting hobbies.” If there is something out there that’s crafty or interesting in anyway, I usually want to take a crack at it. I tend to jump into these endeavors head first, with, for some unknown reason, an aversion to instructions. I think I’m a lot like a dude in that regard - I don’t even ask for directions if I’m lost (in my defense I was a victim of a mean playful gas station attendant the first time I stopped for directions in Memphis, being hopelessly lost and only 16, she gave me very precise directions through the ghetto and to a dead end, when I just needed to get to the highway. The immediate result was only a minor nervous breakdown, but in the long run, a lifetime of avoiding asking directions at any cost. But I digress…). I usually manhandle the craft supplies until I get some sort of result, and almost always realize I’m in WAY over my head and break down and read a how-to on the subject.

Anyway! My latest hobby acquisition: Cross Stitching! Here is my first project:

I saw a cross stitched something or other on the internet and thought that those little stitches looked exactly like pixels! Or legos, which I used for a pattern. Also, perler beads. So here I was thinking I was all unique and clever, but once I start trolling around the internet, I find that I’m on the tail end of this idea. Geeky cross stitches are EVERYWHERE. My favorite geeky cross stitching blogger so far is definitely Sprite Stitch. He updates all the time and has a bunch of fun patterns, and most impressive, is a dude that cross stitches. How awesome is that?

I’m currently working on a Black Mage pattern from his website. Hopefully now that I’ve actually done some reading on this cross stitch craziness, this one will turn out better.
